The new ‘it’ superfood
Unsure of what Jasberry rice is? Gram for gram, this wonder purple rice contains 2.8 times the antioxidants of blueberries. Jasberry rice is a variety of non-GMO rice that has resulted from decades of natural cross-breeding.
Jasberry rice contains a high dose of antioxidants called anthocyanins, making it a superfood. It also gives it a dark purple colour. Anthocyanins are particularly powerful with fighting against inflammation, free radical damage and protecting against cell damage.
A delicious social enterprise
“I am so happy and proud to support a worthy social enterprise such as Siam Organic, and at the same time bring a nutrient-dense superfood ingredient to all of our customers”, says Ms Yeap Cheng Guat, founder of Cedele.
Peetachai (Neil) Dejkraisak, CEO/Co-founder, Siam Organic Co., Ltd. & Jasberry Co., Ltd.shared that he chose to work with Cedele in Singapore as our ethos of Eat Well, Be Well is something that they share.
Neil explained that “in 2017, we first tried Cedele’s food and wanted to partner with them as the food was so delicious and the ingredients so healthy that we knew there’s a deep level of care that goes into the food at Cedele. After meeting its founder, Ms Cheng, we were even more impressed by how much she cares for not just the well-being of her consumers, but also the well-being of the supplier (in this case the farmers in Thailand). After that, it was an easy decision for us to partner with such a wonderful company.”
Siam Organic packages and distributes organic Jasberry rice internationally, connecting small-scale farmers in rural Thailand with global markets. At the same time, Siam Organic also works with impoverished farmers from the North-East of Thailand to alleviate their poverty, reduce farming input costs, increase yield and guarantee a higher purchase price, making rice farming a more sustainable livelihood.
